Swap, Don’t Shop!
Lite Foot Company is hosting their first Clothing Swap this Saturday, September 17th at The Stables.
“Since Lite Foot's mission is to help people reduce their footprint, we thought a clothing swap is a perfect way to gain new (to you) clothes while reducing your footprint,” says refillery founder Katie Rodgers-Hubbard.
Why is a clothing swap better for the environment?
The US sends away a billion pounds of used clothing each year, making it our 8th largest export! This is largely your clothes “donated” to Goodwill and unsold clothes from fast fashion brands. Then another 12 million tons of textiles are sent to US landfills annually. The fashion industry has had a bigger impact on climate change in the last 5 years than air and ground transportation.
“By swapping, we prevent these once loved clothes from being sent oversees or to landfills, and we are sending a message to the fashion industry about our priorities. My hope is that we can create a culture of swapping in Savannah, from seasonal clothing exchanges to toys, coats, books, etc.”
How it works
Bring 1-10 good condition items (no shoes, undergarments, swimwear, or hats) to the final drop off on Tuesday, September 13th 4-6pm at Superbloom. On Saturday from 11am-1pm, come to The Stables and leave with a new wardrobe. Donate 7 items, leave with 7 items. How neat is that!
Tickets are $5 and can be purchased when you drop off your gems. All money raised will help purchase needed supplies to make this a regular occurrence!
From 1-2pm, the swap will be open to people who were not able to donate; all remaining pieces will be $1/item.
Follow Lite Foot on Instagram to keep up with the swap and other ways to reduce your footprint.
