Run, Savannah, Run
I asked my friend Celeste to share some advice for people who want to run a 5K. Here are here tips.
Find a race three months out, sign up and commit.
Go to a running store and get fitted for a good pair of running shoes. You can always buy online for a better price, but the right shoe for your feet is important.
Find a reliable running partner that will keep you accountable for training runs, or join a local running group here in Savannah.
Depending on your fitness level, start with walking a mile and increase your distance over the first few weeks, then mix in a minute of running, at whatever pace is comfortable. Then alternate with five minutes of walking. Do 3 x a week for 30 or 40 minutes, until you’re at 2.5 to 3 miles per workout. Increase the running time by 1 minute each week, and before you know it, you are running 3 miles.
Outdoor training is highly recommended. A treadmill is not the same experience, but if that is your only option, that works too.
Have fun and enjoy the outdoors! Don’t fret if you have to walk some. Keep a comfortable “talking “ pace. You can always work on speed for your next race.
Runoff This Tuesday
The special election for District 2 County Comissioner held in September was not won by a 50% majority, therefore a runoff is being held on Tuesday, October 17th. The two candidates are Malinda Jane Scott Hodge and David Tootle. District 2 includes much of the 31401 zip code and more; check here to see if it applies to you.
Vote! Your vote has a greater impact on you and your community in local elections!
*Hellenic Center voting is at Bull Street Baptist this election only
