Savannah Bits and Bites
Hi! I want to introduce a new monthly feature where we talk about food and drink here in Savannah. First, I want to share some history. Savannah is home to the first place in the country that serves chicken fingers. Spanky’s on River Street started selling chicken fingers in 1976.
Desposito’s has reopened in Thunderbolt. It is a welcome addition since Savannah can always use another good place for seafood. Saint Bibiana is now open at 700 Drayton St under the management of the Left Lane Hospitality Group. The cuisine is coastal Italian.
Janet Yellen and George Clinton were in town last week. Secretary of Treasury Janet Yellen had lunch at Mrs. Wilkes and funk pioneer George Clinton was spotted at Dottie’s Market and at Brochu’s.
SCAD Film Festival
The 26th SCAD Film Festival (the largest university-run film fest) is back October 21-28. Tickets go on sale 10 am Friday, October 6. Week long passes are available for showtimes before 6pm as well as individual movie tickets (the latter tend to sell out quickly). Each year there are wide variety of screenings from current blockbusters to indie documentaries, from student films to cult classics, and several panels featuring cast and crew of the films.
