What Does It Take For A Restaurant To Survive?
Two downtown restaurants, New Realm and Co, closed suddenly. Whereas New Realm opened less than two years ago, Co had been around for years. Yet the end result is the same, closure. We posted the question to our Instagram followers, “What does it take for a restaurant to survive in Savannah?” People responded with consistency, affordability, and great service.
I (Nichelle) want to add my own two cents. Restaurants should have a mission, a goal. It is more than about good food, great service, and pretty decor. There should be an intention on how guests will feel before, during, and after. As a food lover, I want to be excited before coming because I like to try something new. When I get there, I want to feel comfortable because the seating is not cramped, the music is not too loud, and the service is attentive. After I eat, I want to feel satiated from the food but not stuffed. Lastly, I want to be able to recommend the place to friends. Word of mouth is one of the most important things for restaurant survival.
