Women’s History Month
Living in the South, you hear the term “Southern Belle” a lot. It may seem like a outdated stereotype attributed to women in the South but I think it is time to reclaim it. There are so many examples of women in Savannah being savvy leaders. James Edward Oglethorpe founded Savannah in 1733, but seven women worked to preserve the historic Savannah. Anna Colquitt Hunter, Lucy Barrow McIntire, Elinor Grunsfeld Adler Dillard, Nola McEvoy Roos, Jane Adair Wright, Katherine Judkins Clark and Dorothy Ripley Roebling all worked together to save The Davenport House and other historical structures in the city. Juliette Gordon Low founded Girl Scouts here. Pat Gunn is a storyteller who keeps the Gullah Geechee culture alive here in Savannah.
Be A Tourist: Georgia State Railroad Museum

What an incredible collection of pre-Civil War era buildings! Whether you are into trains, history, architecture, or need a good place to entertain children, this museum has it all for $15 a ticket. I (Tiffany) am a nerd for old buildings, bygone machinery, and old typefaces which means I had a smile plastered on my face for my entire experience while visiting. I highly recommend it if you have children or not. And while I did not go to the adjacent Children’s Museum, I can see how this can be an outing for families and adults with child-like wonder.
