The 31401 Interview with Ella Shipes
Ella and I (Nichelle) worked together for a couple of years at The Grey Market before she left to start her own business, Glory Days Vintage, which is located at 3 East Broughton Street in the back of The Copper Closet.
What is your Savannahversary? How long have you lived in Savannah?
I have been in Savannah since May 2017, so almost 7 years now!
You turned a side hustle into a growing business. What advice would you give other local entrepreneurs?
I would say to start small and grow slowly. I think a part of my success comes from learning as much as I could before completely jumping into my side hustle. I was working two jobs when I first started. Creating a plan/timeline for yourself with goals goes a long way.
What are two things you love and one thing you hate about Savannah?
I love the food scene in Savannah. Savannah is the first city where I started to try new things and working in the restaurant industry made me have such an appreciation for it. I also love the squares. I have tried to make it a point to start walking downtown more often and I discover something new every week now. We truly live in such a beautiful city!
The only thing I dislike is how expensive parking is!
What do you want people to know about Glory Days Vintage?
I named my business after my mom who passed away when I was 19. Her name was Gloria and she was so fun and crazy in the best way! I grew up thrifting with my parents from a very young age and it helped develop my love for all things vintage and thrifting. Both of my parents have passed but the name Glory Days is a way to honor them both. It has been one of my greatest accomplishments.
Share Your Thoughts: Bakery in Starland
It’s been announced that FARM Hospitality (of Common Thread & Strange Bird) is the lucky new owners of the former Back in the Day location. Flora & Fauna will continue as a bakery and supper club. The Metropolitan Planning Commission is soliciting feedback from the community about the space and concept before their meeting on Tuesday, March 19th. Learn more and share your thoughts here.
