Back to Art School
As the kids return back to school this week, us, adults, have several options for continuing our art education. Don’t forget your inner creative (we all have one!) and check out these fun classes starting in the fall:
Savannah Cultural Arts Center
Affordable visual & performing arts courses for all ages and spanning many different mediums such as music, dance, painting, jewelry-making, and ceramics (ceramics is full for this session).
Dreamhouse Studios
Currently offering 4-week ceramics courses in August & September. But keep an eye on their Instagram, as they offer several new and interesting workshops each month. Lauren Puckett, who was recently interviewed on The 31401, is teaching a glassware class on Friday, August 25th.
The Clay Spot
Variety of ceramic courses for adults throughout the week. Tends to book up quickly.
Jepson Center
Several visual arts courses beginning in September, including sketching, drawing, and painting.
Vanishing Sculpture Made From Tabby
Outside of Savannah and the Low Country, people would first assume that tabby is a kind of cat. Tabby is concrete made by creating a mixture of sand, ash, water and oyster shells. You can see it everywhere from sidewalks to buildings. Beverly Buchanan created tabby sculptures in the marshes in Brunswick called the Marsh Ruins. (via New York Times)
