The 31401 Interview: Three Questions with Carla Sparks
When is your Savannaversary?
My Savannaversary is June 1st. I came to Savannah in 2023 after being too cold in Denver, Minneapolis, and Seattle.
What are two things you love about Savannah, and one thing you wish were better?
I love the creative, entrepreneurial spirit here. It feels like a town full of people with great ideas who aren't afraid to try things out! I also love the sense of stewardship here. What I mean by that is that people act like they live here--they take care of the environment and each other; there's a greater sense of accountability than you'd find in a major metropolitan area. It's hard to say what I wish was different without getting into a larger conversation about economics that I don't fully understand SO I will say that I wish there were more queer-claimed spaces.
What are you excited to share with the community?
I'm so excited to be working on building queer community here (and eventually creating a social club with a clubhouse) through Chosen Creatures. The LGBTQ+ community here is so vibrant and inspiring and I am looking forward to finding more ways for us to connect with and support each other. Come to skate night!
