The 31401 Interview
Cheryl Day was one of the first people I met when I moved to Savannah seven years ago. Cheryl is an author, entrepreneur and former Soul Train dancer. In addition to Back in the Day Bakery, she has recently launched Dåy Studio, a collaborative event space.
What is your Savannahversary, the date you moved to Savannah?
I moved to Savannah December 31, 1999.
What are two things you love about Savannah and one thing you wish were better?
It’s a beautiful city. I love living here. I like that Savannah is creative and growing. I wish more people from diverse backgrounds would stay here and connect with the community.
What do you want people to know about Dåy Studio?
Dåy Studio is a creative, flexible event space that will focus on food, art and community. The first event is a collaborative pop-up market next weekend. The studio will be used for chef dinners, supper club and maker markets. Dåy Studio is a way for me to use my platform to showcase BIPOC makers. In addition, I will be hosting baking classes.
Trick or Trees
Combat canopy loss and beautify Savannah by planting a tree in your yard. The Savannah Tree Foundation is distributing free trees just in time for the planting season on Saturday, October 29th 9am-12pm at Tricentennial Park (Georgia State Railroad Museum). Expect tree care instructions, treats and kid activities, as well.
